Entropy Solutions and SCA Cool Logistics Introduce GREENBOX to Life Science Industry, Announce Partnership
Innovative packaging technology keeps contents at consistent temperature for more than five days, eliminates spoilage, is environmentally responsible and reduces distribution-related expenses up to 65 percent
Entropy Solutions, Inc., a Minneapolis, Minn.- based thermal technology development company and SCA Cool Logistics, a UK-based packaging company, today announced the introduction of GREENBOX™ Thermal Management System. Designed to transport pharmaceuticals, biologics and blood supplies, GREENBOX is capable of maintaining narrow temperature ranges for extended durations of time – up to 120+ hours, regardless of external environmental conditions.
GREENBOX benefits the pharmaceutical and life science industries in several ways, for example:
No spoilage: In the past, shipping temperature-sensitive goods internationally, cross-country or even to outlying or rural areas has resulted in enormous amounts of product spoilage. Because GREENBOX maintains a consistent temperature for up to five days, the risk of spoilage is now virtually non-existent.
-
Any-day shipping: The majority of temperature-sensitive goods are shipped overnight express due to limited thermal protection with current shipping technology. Because GREENBOX maintains temperature for up to five days, customers can ship road freight – even on Fridays – typically resulting in a 65 percent reduction in shipping and distribution expenses.
-
Greater payload efficiency: GREENBOX offers twice the payload space over competitors because of its innovative and streamlined thermal management system – nanotechnology combined with optimal amounts of phase change material.
-
Reduction in distribution-related expenses: Customers can save up to 65 percent on distribution-related expenses due to GREENBOX’s unique, reusable design. In contrast with typical single-use systems, GREENBOX can be reused again and again, with current customers experiencing up to 50 times of reuse.
-
Instant-pack protocol: GREENBOX features an instant-pack protocol – a simple five-step process allowing customers the ability to pack payload at its specified temperature without thermal shock.
-
The first reusable shipper: Because of the resilient nature of GREENBOX customers can use one box up to 50 times, making it the industry’s first reusable thermal shipper. In the United States (and soon in Europe), reclamation centres gather used GREENBOXes, then inspect, clean and re-certify them for re-use.
-
Sustainability: GREENBOX’s innovative materials used are also 100 percent recyclable. When the bright green, hard plastic outer shell and Thermal-LokTM insulating panels reach the end of their lives they are ground down and made into new shells and panels. In addition, GREENBOX features biodegradable, non-petroleum, non-toxic phase change materials.
-
Meets “green” initiatives: Many of today’s leading pharmaceutical companies employ green initiatives and GREENBOX is a perfect fit. It’s the industry’s first and only completely sustainable thermal packaging system, created with 100 percent recyclable, organic-based, non-toxic and fully biodegradable components.
“We believe GREENBOX can truly revolutionize the life science industry,” said Eric Lindquist, President of Entropy Solutions. “With the Entropy Phase Change Technology at the core of our system, we’re empowering the industry to ship life-saving drugs with more confidence than ever before and save significantly on distribution costs while doing so.”
Exclusive Partnership
Entropy Solutions and SCA Cool Logistics also announced an exclusive distribution partnership. SCA Cool Logistics now holds the rights to manufacture and distribute GREENBOX, as well as other Entropy Solutions products. This means that whereas previously available in North America alone, GREENBOX will now reach customers throughout Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Singapore.
“Reaching customers worldwide is crucial to our company’s mission,” said Eric Lindquist. “SCA Cool Logistics is the European market leader in temperature-controlled packaging and together we can provide our global customers with the highest quality, most effective thermal packaging solutions.”
SCA Cool Logistics is a wholly owned subsidiary of SCA Packaging, a global packaging company with €3.5 billion in revenue, whose customers include the world’s top 20 pharmaceutical companies.
“We have a long-standing reputation of providing the most innovative thermal shipping solutions,” said Kevin Valentine, Managing Director of SCA Cool Logistics. “That’s why we are proud to partner with Entropy Solutions to offer GREENBOX to our customers. During extensive testing the GREENBOX provided excellent thermal performance. By combining innovative phase change technology in an environment-friendly design, GREENBOX is the perfect fit to meeting our customers' temperature-sensitive packaging needs, whether they're shipping across town or across continents.”

May 2007

From day one, Cool Logistics has recognised the importance of a fully integrated quality management system, forming the foundation of its proactive growth plan.
January 2007 saw the completion of this with the accreditation of NQA in OHSAS 18001:1999 Health and Safety Management.
OHSAS 18001:1999 follows on from our accreditation in ISO 9001:2000 Quality Management and ISO 14001:2004 Environmental Management.
Having first implemented the OHSAS standards in 2006, we have improved our systems for Risk Assessment greatly and now ensure compliance with changing legislation and directives. This is extremely important to us, as it proves that Cool Logistics is striving to provide a safe and happy environment for all our staff and customers and when forming part of the entire quality management system enables us to offer our customers high quality product and service levels across the entire business, in aspects such as health and safety, risk assessment and environment impact management.
The ISO 9000 and ISO 14000 families are among ISO's most widely known standards and are implemented by some 887,770 organisations in 161 countries. ISO 9000 has become an international reference for quality management requirements in business-to-business dealings and ISO 14000 is well on the way to achieving as much in enabling organisations to meet their environmental challenges.
April 2007
The Cool Logistics mantra “Striving to be a pleasure to do business with” has led to some big changes at our UK site.
The most recent changes have been made in the technical department, with the introduction of two new packaging engineers and eight new environmental test chambers. This growth will enable Cool Logistics to maintain our high level of customer service and solution output.
Our two new packaging engineers are Emma Payne and Sara Eriksson who are both qualified mechanical engineers. Emma was previously involved in design specification in the automotive industry and Sara also has an automotive background.
The addition of eight new chambers now means Cool Logistics has the largest testing facility in Europe with a total of 19 chambers of varying sizes. This enables us to test our complete range of box sizes from the CL1705 right up to air cargo container dimensions.
Cool Logistics’ eight Environmental Rooms have a temperature range from -40°C to +50°C with a rate of change of 0.5°C per minute and have enough capacity to test imperial pallet-sized loads, with the largest able to accommodate small courier vans. Our seven smaller chambers are each approximately 1m cubed internally and allow for rapid turnarounds on smaller packaging development programs.
In making these changes we can almost double the technical centre’s output and are able to implement methods such as parallel test work and multiple designs running simultaneously within the large capacity chambers. It all enables us to keep up with the needs of our customers whilst having the extra resource abilities for new product development.
Looking forward, this won’t be the last increase seen in this department and plans are already in place to double the technical centre’s laboratory area. More environmental chambers and specialist development equipment will further enable us to be fully supportive to the market place at the same time as developing innovative packaging solutions.
October 2006
Cool Logistics are pleased to let you know that SCA have completed the acquisition of the remaining 75% of shares under the option agreement we signed last year. SCA are now sole owners of the company, which will continue to trade under the Cool Logistics brand.
The partnership under which we have been working will continue much the same from our customer's point of view, with Cool Logistics supplying the range of ThermoSafe products from SCA North America.
Our growth plans are continuing rapidly with the plants in Scotland and Singapore on line and the Czech plant due to be manufacturing the polyurethane shippers and Foam Brick Polar Pack by February 07. We hope that this increased network of manufacturing and supply points will enable us to meet your needs more flexibly and efficiently.
We have also launched our new website www.cool-logistics.com which shows you the full range of products and services we now offer, including our new range of pre-qualified Nomadic shippers.
Everyone at Cool Logistics would like to take this opportunity to say a special thank you to all our customers who have made Cool Logistics what it is today and that we look forward to hearing from you in the near future with any ways we can improve our service to you.
May 2006
We are pleased to welcome Steve Healy and Andrew Clyburn into our sales team.

Steve will be based in the UK, covering the UK and Ireland.

May 2006
We have launched the first 4 Seasonal Nomadic systems.
These systems are Pre-qualified
for +2°C to +8°C product shipments. We plan to extend both the Nomadic and Seasonal
Nomadic ranges later this year.
May 2006
The largest dedicated Design & Qualification Lab in Europe has opened in Leighton Buzzard. At 6,500 sq ft the lab has 14 environmentally controlled chambers, 10 of which are ‘walk-in’.
Kevin
Valentine expressed his enthusiasm;
“It’s an exciting
time for Cool Logistics. Business continues to grow in line
with customer satisfaction and as a result, we have expanded
our offices to better serve our customers. The increased space
presents us with more efficient testing and warehousing facilities, something
which, in turn, will help sustain our growth into the future.”
